Central Asian Ovcharka (ovcharka means Shepherddog), or CAO - a 'name' in the world of dogs nowadays. These dogs represent the real, native shepherddog for many people.

This breed - or we'd rather say this group of breeds - had been used to be a reliable company for nomadic people in guarding the livestock and the property of the family for ages, often even in extreme circumstances. These circumstances required durability, sturdiness, a long useful lifetime, an ability to become aware of any situation quickly and self-reliance. All these had to be accompanied with reliability and loyality towards the master's family.

However, these characterictics were fixed not by any planned, conscious breeding work, but by the existing situation, conditions. That's why after the appearance of synthetic fibres, as the importance of wool and so of herds decreased, the utilisation of dogs changed, too. CAOs became the fashionable participants of dog shows. In this world, the points of selection were completely different from the original ones. This fact, together with some input of other breeds at some breeders, caused the 'dilution' of the Central Asian Shepherddog, and sometimes the loss of the original qualities.
Today it is very hard to find pure, original, working shepherddogs even in the native countries. Most breeders live in big towns, breed for the show market, what's more, they import show dogs to 'improve the quality'. On the other hand, the description of the breed (the CAO standard) still contains the original characteristics. This may result the disappointment of some new owners, as they cannot find the expected quality, but face some health or handling problems with the new member of the family.
For the past 9 years, our aim has always been to preserve the ancient characteristics, breed real shepherddogs and show them to those people buying our puppies.
We live our life in 2 farms, surrounded with dogs, akhalteke horses and other livestock, and try to ensure something similar to the original conditions.
